Marco Corona

Director of Individual Giving

Marco builds crucial relationships between donors and SELC, stewarding and strengthening these bonds with the aim of increasing major gifts. In particular, he connects individuals in South Carolina and California to SELC.

“I believe the climate crisis is THE existential threat of our lifetime,” says Marco, who is originally from Los Angeles. “I want to ensure a better environment for my daughter and future generations. I believe I can make an impact.”

With more than 20 years in the nonprofit sector, Marco brings to SELC 17 years as a fundraiser and a dozen years in executive/leadership roles. The SELC work that Marco is most excited about includes protection of old growth forests; advocacy for renewable energy and eco-friendly infrastructure; and building coastal resiliency in South Carolina.

Marco loves the Palmetto State. His wife’s family roots there reach back 10 generations. He is based in Charleston, a dynamic city that “is also shifting on a lot of issues, not without friction, but there has been movement to address the effects of climate change as well as grapple with the role Charleston and South Carolina played in the international slave trade.”
