Office:

Charlottesville, VA – Virginia Office

Liam Cavanaugh

Legal/Administrative Assistant

Liam provides administrative and project support to SELC attorneys in Virginia working on clean water defense and forest protection. He also assists the Senior Communications Manager and Senior Policy and Outreach Manager for the Virginia office.

What energizes him the most is SELC’s tireless effort to ensure equitable and universal access to clean air, water and food, free from pollution. In particular, he enjoys helping to combat emerging contaminants in water such as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), and to rectify the disproportionate burden of environmental pollution on low-wealth communities and communities of color.

“SELC’s place-based approach and embrace of community-lawyering resonate with me,” Liam said. “I appreciate that they come to the table with a question of how they can lend their expertise and insight to best support a community working to resolve the environmental challenges they face.”

Having grown up in Georgia, Liam’s favorite natural spaces in the region are Tallulah Gorge and Rabun Bald in northeast Georgia. He’s looking forward to exploring more of the Appalachian Mountains in and around the Shenandoah Valley.
