Kate Mixson

Senior Attorney

When a utility made a proposal to the South Carolina Public Service Commission that would have killed rooftop solar in the state, Kate was part of a Southern Environmental Law Center team that defeated it.

Kate works through legislation, policy, and litigation to advance clean energy resources like solar, energy efficiency, and battery storage. She represents clean energy nonprofit clients in proceedings before state utility regulators, and develops and manages relationships with utilities, trade allies, and other organizations working to advance clean energy in the state.

“Working for SELC lets me align my professional life with my personal goals and values around environmental protection and clean energy, and to hopefully make an impact in the Southeast where I grew up,” Kate said.

Her early years were spent in New Bern, North Carolina, and she now lives in Summerville, South Carolina. It’s a great location for her because the South Carolina Lowcountry is one of her favorite places in the region, especially Beaufort, South Carolina.
