Jasmine Washington
Associate Attorney
As a Glynn Key Associate Attorney, Jasmine has contributed to several environmental justice cases. She spends a lot of time in research related to cases involving Title VI, the federal civil rights law that requires local governments and other recipients of federal funding to ensure that their programs do not discriminate.
Jasmine also works on assessing cumulative impacts—how the total burden of environmental stressors and their interactions affect health, well-being, and quality of life. As an extrovert, Jasmine particularly loves meeting with client groups and draws inspiration from their passion to protect vulnerable places and people in their communities.
“The environmental burdens on black and brown communities have been ignored for a long time so it’s an honor to work with communities and partners in the SELC environmental justice initiative to address these issues,” she said.
Jasmine is a lifelong resident of North Carolina whose extended family lives across the Carolinas and Virginia. She loves working for SELC because environmental issues are personal to her.
“SELC does meaningful work to protect the environment in places and communities that I know and love,” she said.

Jasmine enjoys the biodiversity of North Carolina’s Outer Banks and camping there. “I really love the spots where you can see the calm water on the sound, then turn around and see the crashing waves of the ocean.”
